Historical Note

The Pan-American Exposition Commission created under Public Law 1900 Chapter 793, approved June 13, 1900 “An Act to Provide for the Collection, Preparation, and Exhibition of the Exhibits from the State of Rhode Island at the Pan – American Exposition at Buffalo, New York." $5,000.00 appropriated. Additional $15,000.00 appropriation under resolution of the General Assembly (#34) approved Feb. 7, 1901. Commissioners appointed by the governor Oct. 26, 1900, included John S. Kenyon of Richmond (president), Henry J. Spooner of Providence (vice president), Jesse H. Metcalf of Providence (secretary & treasurer) & Howard O. Sturges of Warwick & Etienne C. Delabarre of Woonsocket. George N. Kingsbury served as Executive Superintendent.
