From the Series:
Certain state government positions and occupations required the posting of bonds with the General Treasurer. This series contains records documenting the posting of bonds by public officials, including auctioneers, the General Treasurer, sheriffs and clerks of the courts. Masters of vessels have also been required to post a bond with the government and, after the Revolution, with the General Treasurer specifically. Surety bonds for the faithful performance of the duties of a state officer. Includes: name of office holder, name of office, amount of bond, names of surety for the bond, and length of time
the bond is in effect.
