The Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commission was created by act of the Rhode Island General Assembly ion April 17, 1903 in act entitled, “An Act to Provide for the Collection, Preparation, and Exhibition of the Exhibits from the State of Rhode Island at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition at St. Louis, State of Missouri, in 1904”. This act created a commission that was designated the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commission of Rhode Island. The commission consisted of three citizens of the state that were appointed by the Governor and four citizens that were appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The commission was charged with the collection, preparation, and exhibition at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition of exhibits of the natural and industrial products of the state, and of objects illustrating the state’s history and its moral and material development. A final report to the General Assembly was required by the establishing act.
