Transcription
The 24th of ye 1st month called March, in ye year (so commonly called) 1637
Memorandum that we Cannonnicus and Miantunnomu ye two cheife Sachims of the
Narihigansets, by vertue of our generall Command of this Bay, as allso the particular
subjecting of ye dead Sachims of Acquednick & Kitackamuckqut, themselves and Lands
unto us, have sold unto Mr Coddington and his freinds united unto him, the great
Island of Acquidneck lying from hence Eastward in this Bay, as allso the Marsh or
grasse upon Quinunnagut and the rest of the Islands in this Bay (excepting
Chibachuwesa formerly sold unto Mr Winthrop, the now Govr of ye Massachusets, and
Mr Williams of Providence) allso the grasse upon the rivers and Coves about
Kitackamuckqut, and from thence to Paupasquatah, for the full payment of
forty fathom of white beades, to be equally devided between us In witnes whereof
we have here subscribed.
Item by giveing by Miantunnamu’s hand ten Coats and twenty hows to the present
Inhabitants, they shall remove themselves from off the Island before next winter

This witnesseth that I Wanamatannemet ye present Sachim Inhabitant of ye Island have received five
fathom of wampam and doe consent to the contents, witnes my hand
In ye presence ofye mark ofWanamatannemet

Memorandum that I Ousamequin freely Consent that Mr William Coddington and his friends united unto
him shall make use of any grasse or trees in ye maine Land in Powakasick side and did
promise Loveing and just Carriage of my selfe and all my men to the said Mr Coddington and
English his freinds united to him, haveing received of Mr Coddington five fathom of wampam as
gratuity from himselfe and the rest.
