Biographical / Historical

The State Properties Commission was created and established from Chapter 3105 of the 1953 Public Laws. The act provided for the acquisition, administration and disposal of real property and interests therein. The Committee was to act in cooperation with other departments, boards, bureaus, commissions and agencies of the state for the purposes of acquiring, administering and disposing of interests in land and other real property for the improvement of the administration of the state government, the advancement of commerce and the protection and improvement of the health, welfare and safety of the inhabitants of this state. The committee shall be comprised of the state purchasing agent, the director of administration and the attorney general.

This series of minutes contain information relative to various transportation and public works projects including but not limited to Interstate 96, Route 6 connector, Route 2 relocation, T.F. Green Airport, Big River Reservoir, Interstate 295, Blackstone Valley sewer interceptor, main roads, bypasses, interchanges construction of public buildings and the establishment of recreational and historical sites.

The meeting minutes include agendas and other supporting documentation including permission to settle claims and items pending. These records were primarily copies maintained by the member of the committee representing the Office of the Attorney General.

The Committee worked with the Right of Way division of the RIDOT, the Water Resources Coordinating board, the Department of Natural Resources, the State Purchasing Agent among other interested agencies and parties. The committee performed various functions relating to projects including condemnations, renting and leasing, the granting of easements, offers of settlements and approvals of claims with claimants on interest of various plats relative to projects.
