Collection consists of personal memborabilia belonging to Harold G. Fletcher acquired during his serivice as Seargeant later Warrant Officer with the 118th Engineers Company B and HQ and Service Company, 43rd Infantry Division during the period of the 1930's through the 1950's

Biographical / Historical

Harold Grove Fletcher (Feb. 21, 1914 - Feb. 5, 1989) was born in Providence the first child of Harold and Lillian (Deffew). A resident of Providence and later Warwick commencing in 1945, he was the husband of Phyllis (Berube) and father of three children, Harold G. Jr., David P. and Barbara A Fletcher. October 23, 1929, he enlisted with Company B, 118th Engineers (Combat), later 118th Military Police Battalion, Rhode Island National Guard with reenlistments Oct. 23, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1938 and Oct. 10, 1940. A veteran of both World War II and Korea he was assingned as an Inspector and Instructor with the 1st Airborne Enginers Training Center at Richmond, VA and later Spokane, WA. With over 44 years of service he retired in July 1974.

Custodial History

Collection donated to the State Archvies by the Office of the Rhode Island Adjutant General in 1994 as part of a larger donation of manuscript and published material belonging to the Adjutant General's Office dating from the period of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
