Biographical / Historical
The Department of Public Welfare was established as part of a major reorganization of the state's many boards and commissions into government departments in the 1930s (Public Law 1935, ch. 2218, 2250.) It inherited the programs and functions of the the State Public Welfare Commission, but was replaced by the Department of Social Welfare a short four years later, in 1939.
