Biographical / Historical
Office of Paymaster General established March 6, 1856 pursuant to “Act to Regulate the Militia (C#00210, Acts & Resolves of the General Assembly, 1856, Vol. 51 #83). Jabez Comstock Knight (1813 - 1900) of Providence appointed first Paymaster General with the rank of Colonel. 1879 jutant General assumed duties of the office by public Law 1879, Chapter 760 approved April 4.
